Dodge Fuel Pump
The fuel pump is an essential component to your vehicle and
to the other combustion engine devices. Since the fuel cannot just
automatically jump from the tank to the engine during combustion, a
device is needed to pump this liquid. This is where the fuel pump comes
in. The Dodge fuel pump transfers the fuel from the fuel tank to the
engine, delivered under low pressure to the carburetor or under high
pressure to the fuel injection system. Some fuel injected engines have
two fuel pumps for this purpose: one low pressure/high volume supply
pump in the tank and one high pressure/low volume pump on or near the
engine. The pump could either be mechanical in nature, one used in
vehicles with a carburetor, or electric, one with its own electrical
control circuit.
The purpose of the fuel pump is to provide
fuel with the proper pressure and volume to the carburetor or the fuel
injector. The pump is the medium utilized by the fuel for it to travel
smoothly from one place to the other.
If
you are currently using a mechanical pump, you should have the pump
immediately replaced the moment it exhibits problem. The pressure and
the volume may drop off, giving an early warning sign of impending pump
failure. With regards to fuel-injected vehicles, regular fuel filter
changes can help extend the life of the electric pump. It is suggested
that you replace the filter every other two years or about 24,000
miles. The contaminated filter can restrict the fuel flow from the
electric fuel pump, eventually damaging the pump.
