Dodge Headers
The intake manifold or the inlet manifold is that part of
the engine that supplies the fuel/air mixture to the cylinders during
combustion. The exhaust manifold or the headers, on the other hand, is
that part that collects the exhaust gases from the multiple cylinders
into one pipe.

The headers are usually made from aluminum
and are located between the carburetor and the cylinder head. These are
traditionally and generally simple cast iron units that collect engine
exhaust and deliver that exhaust to the exhaust pipe. The headers are
what keep the engine from breathing easier, making them very important
components in keeping combustion efficient. Exhaust manifolds are
usually employed as the stock parts, but they are usually restrictive.
When your vehicle requires greater performance, these stock tubes
should be replaced with individual headers which are tuned for low
restriction and improved performance.
There are two types of headers: the
collector style headers and the zoomie headers. The collector style
headers use pipes that merge into a collector and utilized with
mufflers. On the other hand, the zoomie headers have no collectors and
are exclusively used on race cars. Along with the high performance cold
air intake and air filters, the Dodge headers reduce the exhaust back
pressure for air to flow more easily out of the engine. They provide
each cylinder with its own mini exhaust pipe and route exhaust pulses
away from the cylinder head into the downstream exhaust collector.
The headers come in various shapes and sizes and will suit the needs of
your vehicle. The top manufacturers create numerous kinds of headers
for the same purpose. Just to be sure, you have to consult your vehicle
manual for the right specification to comply with the OEM quality
standards.
